"Every one of us, unconsciously, works out a personal philosophy of life, by which we are guided, inspired, and corrected, as time goes on. It is this philosophy by which we measure out our days, and by which we advertise to all about us the man, or woman, that we are. . . . It takes but a brief time to scent the life philosophy of anyone. It is defined in the conversation, in the look of the eye, and in the general mien of the person. It has no hiding place. It's like the perfume of the flower — unseen, but known almost instantly. It is the possession of the successful, and the happy. And it can be greatly embellished by the absorption of ideas and experiences of the useful of this earth." George Matthew Adams

Air
A young man asked Socrates the secret to success. Socrates told th young man to meet him bear the river the next morning. They met. Socrates asked the young man to walk with him toward the reiver. When the water got up to their neck, Socrates tookt he young man by surprise and ducked him into the water. The boy struggled to get out but Socrates was strong and kep him there until the boy started turning blue. Socrates pulled his head out of the water and the first thing the young man did was to gasp and take a deep breath of air. Socrates asked "what did you want the most when you were there?" The boy replied, "air". Socrates said, "That is the secret to success. When you want success and badly as you wanted the air, then you will get it." There is no other secret.
Moral : A burning desire is required to acheive great success.

Think Differently
A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: "I am blind, please help." There were only a few coins in the hat.A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat.
He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy.
That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?"The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way."
What he had written was: "Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it."Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?
Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively.

5 steps for active listening
Extracted from webpage.
Step 1 - When someone come to you as a friend to tell you about a problem they are going through or something important that happened you don't won't to let them down.....!!!so you have to be a good listener
Step2 - You have to let them be comfort in saying anything they wanna say if they don't wanna speak then it's up to them.you also wanna keep the conversation private between you two except when he/she fells it's okay to tell others about it.
Step3 - If they began to tell there story don't interrupt them by stupid comments or asking questions out of the subject.if he/she is telling a good thing that happened to them feel free to give comments. Step4 - If it is a bad thing or a problem don't give comments just listen & let him/her feel that you are really concentrating with them instead of doing anything else
Step5 - Let him/her finish there talking then don't speak till they tell you that they are finished or ask you for your opinion.feel free to say your opinion after they finish even if it was contrary to what they say but put it in a good way

Focus
An ancient Indian sage was teaching his disciples the art of archery. He put a wooden bird as the target and asked them to aim at the eye of the bird. The first disciple was asked to describe what he saw. He said, "I see the trees, the brances, the leaves, the sky, the bird and its eye.".
The sage asked this disciple to wait. Then he asked the second disciple the same question and he replied, "I only see the eye of the bird." The sage said, "Very good, then shoot." The arrow went straight and hit the eye of the bird.
Moral : Unless we focus, we cannot achieve our goad. It is hard to focus and concentrate, but it is a skill that can be learned.

Book Review
The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari: A Fable About Fulfilling Your Dreams & Reaching Your Destiny by Robin Sharma
Again this is my hubby's favourite book. He insists me to read this. So just to have an idea about it I came across this book review in net and wish to share with you all.
Editorial Review
Everyone loves a good fable, and this is certainly one. The protagonist is Julian Mantle, a high-profile attorney with a whacked-out schedule and a shameful set of spiritual priorities. Of course it takes a crisis (heart attack) to give Mantle pause. And pause he does--suddenly selling all his beloved possessions to trek India in pursuit of a meaningful existence. The Himalayan gurus along the way give simple advice, such as, "What lies behind you and what lies before you is nothing compared to what lies within you." Yet it is easy to forgive the story's simplicity because each kernel of wisdom is framed to address the persistent angst of Western white-collar professionals. --Gail Hudson

Echo--story
A son and his father were walking on the mountains.
Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
Curious, he yells: "Who are you?"
He receives the answer: "Who are you?"
And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!"The voice answers: "I admire you!"
Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!"He receives the answer: "Coward!"
He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?"
The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention."
Again the man screams: "You are a champion!"The voice answers: "You are a champion!"
The boy is surprised, but does not understand.
Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE.It gives you back everything you say or do.Our life is simply a reflection of our actions. If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence. This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life;Life will give you back everything you have given to it.
"YOUR LIFE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. IT'S A REFLECTION OF YOU!"

Garbage Truck
One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!" This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, "The Law of the Garbage Truck." He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so..... "Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't."

Happiness - a nice quote
"What is the best thing for a stream? It is to keep moving. If it stops, it stagnates. So the best thing for a man is that which keeps the currents going — the physical, the moral, and the intellectual currents. Hence the secret of happiness is — something to do; some congenial work. Take away the occupation of all men, and what a wretched world it would be!Few persons realize how much of their happiness is dependent upon their work, upon the fact that they are kept busy and not left to feed upon themselves. Happiness comes most to persons who seek her least, and think least about it. It is not an object to be sought; it is a state to be induced. It must follow and not lead. It must overtake you, and not you overtake it. How important is health to happiness, yet the best promoter of health is something to do.Blessed is the man who has some congenial work, some occupation in which he can put his heart, and which affords a complete outlet to all the forces there are in him."John Burroughs

Few more quotes
Since light travels faster than sound, people appear bright until you hear them speak.
A light, tender, sensitive touch is worth a ton of brawn.- Peter Thomson
Who is more foolish, the child afraid of the dark or the man afraid of the light?- Maurice Freehill
There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.- Edith Wharton
Nothing travels faster than light, with the possible exception of bad news, which follows its own rules.
There is not enough darkness in all the world to put out the light of even one small candle.- Robert Alden
Live in rooms full of light.- Cornelius Celsus
Light is meaningful only in relation to darkness, and truth presupposes error. It is these mingled opposites which people our life, which make it pungent, intoxicating. We only exist in terms of this conflict, in the zone where black and white clash.- Louis Aragon

Most important part of a body
My mother used to ask me: "What is the most important part of the body?"Through the years I would take a guess at what I thought was the correct answer. When I was younger, I thought sound was very important to us as humans, so I said, "My ears, Mommy."Mother said, "No Many people are deaf. But you keep thinking about it and I will ask you again soon."
Several years passed before she asked me again. Since making my first attempt, I had contemplated the correct answer. So this time I told her, "Mommy, sight is very important to everybody, so it must be our eyes." Mother looked at me and told me, "You are learning fast, but the answer is not correct because there are many people who are blind."
Stumped again, I continued my quest for knowledge. Over the years, Mother asked me a couple more times and always her answer was, "No, but you are getting smarter every year, my child."
Then last year, my grandpa died. Everybody was hurt. Everybody was crying. Even my father cried. I remember that especially because it was only the second time I saw him cry. My Mom looked at me when it was our turn to say our final good-bye to Grandpa.Mother asked me, "Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?"I was shocked when she asked me this now. I always thought this was a game between her and me.
Mother saw the confusion on my face and told me, "This question is very important. It shows that you have really lived in your life. For every body part you gave me in the past, I have told you was wrong and I have given you an example why. But today is the day you need to learn this important lesson."Mother looked down at me as only a mother can. I saw her eyes well up with tears. Mother said, "My dear, the most important body part is your shoulder."I asked, "Is it because it holds up my head?"
Mother replied, "No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend or a loved one when they cry. Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometime in life, my dear.

GREAT VALUE IN DISASTER
Thomas Edison's laboratory was virtually destroyed by fire in December, 1914. Although the damage exceeded $2 million, the buildings were only insured for $238,000 because they were made of concrete and thought to be fireproof.Much of Edison's life's work went up in spectacular flames that December night.
At the height of the fire, Edison's 24-year old son, Charles, frantically searched for his father among the smoke and debris. He finally found him, calmly watching the scene, his face glowing in the reflection, his white hair blowing in the wind."My heart ached for him," said Charles."He was 67 - no longer a young man - and everything was going up in flames.
When he saw me, he shouted, "Charles, where's your mother?"When I told him I didn't know, he said, "Find her. Bring her here. She will never see anything like this as long as she lives."The next morning, Edison looked at the ruins and said, "There is great value in disaster. All our mistakes are burned up. Thank God we can start anew."
Three weeks after the fire, Edison managed to deliver his first phonograph.Oh my, it's very beautiful over there.Thomas EdisonTo invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.Thomas Edison

Give it!
Extract from the book You can win
Do something for others who cannot repay you in cash or kind.
Dr. Krl Menninger, a world-renowned psychiatrist, was once asked, "What would you advise someone if you knew that person was going to have a nervous breakdown?" The audience expected Dr. Menninger to advise consulting a professional. But he didn't. He said, "I would advise that person to lock home, go the other side of town, find someone in need and help that person. By doing that we get out of our own way." A lot of times we get in our own way, don't we?
Be a volunteer. It builds self-worth. Helping others as you would expect others to help you gives a feeling of gratification. It is a good feeling which represents high self esteem. The process of giving without having expectations or getting anything in return raises one's self-esteem.
A healthy personality has the need not only to get but also to give.

Thought for the day
Don´t shy away from challenges ... facing them is the only way you can improve.
Look inside for your strength, then share that strength with others.
Always maintain your sense of humor, share it with others when things get too intense.
Make the play first, then decide if it was impossible.
Admit your mistakes.
It shows character and inner strength.

Efforts
A giant ship engine failed. The ship's owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure but how to fix the engine.
Then they brought in an old man who had been fixing ships since he was a young. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he immediately went to work. He inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom.
Two of the ship's owners were there, watching this man, hoping he would know what to do. After looking things over, the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed!
A week later, the owners received a bill from the old man for ten thousand dollars. "What?!" the owners exclaimed. "He hardly did anything!" So they wrote the old man a note saying, "Please send us an itemized bill."
The man sent a bill that read:
Tapping with a hammer...... ........ ......... $ 2.00
Knowing where to tap......... ........ ........ $ 9, 998.00
Effort is important, but knowing where to make an effort makes all the difference!
